When You Crave Salty Food
According to Bridget Doherty in an article published in Womens Health, when nothing but the saltiest french fry can satisfy, you may have a mineral deficiency. Studies with women who regularly eat a low-calcium diet have shown a craving for salt more than those who get adequate amounts of the mineral.
Researcher Michael Tordoff, Ph. D. of the Monell Chemical Senses Center in Philadelphia, an institute that studies taste and smell has found in animal studies that salt cravings in animals result from a deficiency of potassium, calcium, and iron.
One possible explanation is that the sodium in salt temporarily increases the calcium level in blood tricking the body into thinking the problem is solved.
The real solution is the proper intake of whatever mineral or minerals your body is lacking.
